My bag is packed, take me home friend
Most people are brought up to dream of the big house, perfect marriage and kids, white picket fence....and the perfect family dog or cat. Many of us out there have a set of ideals, of what we want that pet to look like or what breed. It is this set of ideals that unfortunately indirectly causes alot of pets in shelters to be euthanized each year. Firstly designer breeds are handed in the rescues, maybe not as often as your regular dog or cat, but it does happen, if you are dead set in wanting a specific breed.
It's easy to get de-sensitised to figures, but behind those figures lie a reality. A reality that entails beautiful dogs and cats being held in a cage or small compound till somebody like you, shows up and gives them a second chance at life. They are words that have become cliche- Make their dream come true, give them a forever home etc etc. The writer wants you to think about this; What if this shelter dog is the dog that protects your child when others are around, or when you are having a bad day, he just sits near you offering comfort. The cute moments and happy times all ready to be collected. The memories and the feeling that you have a best friend out there, that doesn't judge you, and is always happy to see you. If you have any doubts, just visit an animal shelter one day in your life, and tell me that they aren't worth saying no to a breeder, and rescuing them.
You need to read this if you are considering buying from a breeder:
No more lonely nights....
Each year, more than 7 million dogs and cats are left at animal shelters in the U.S.—and nearly half of those must be euthanized because of a lack of good homes. In recessionary times, shelters are full to the brim with animals crying out for a home. Just go to your nearest animal shelter/ rescue/ animal sanctuary before making any commitment, and see for yourself that giving a home to a breeders dog or cat denies the shelter dog or cat a home, and a chance at life.
Good Luck!
